Why Canary Cottage Kids Works
The Canary Cottage Kids on the Block Program has been developed to educate children about sensitivity toward peers and provide specific strategies to help children avoid or cope with life situations. This curriculum is an educational tool designed to:
- explain/define life situations
- examine various problem-solving techniques
- encourage children to talk about their feelings and unjust situations
- demonstrate how students, with the help of school administrators, teachers, and parents, can promote a school environment
- provide additional resources to adults and children
- inspire children to be confident in their own perceptions of right and wrong
Quality Results
Each performance includes question-and-answer periods during which audiences interact directly with the puppet characters. During these times, myths and misconceptions are replaced with facts and sensitivity.
Creative Learning
The Canary Cottage Kids on the Block are puppets that dress and act like real children. Each puppet character has a distinct personality and life story. Like real children, some have developmental, physical, or emotional disabilities. This program is powerful in helping break down barriers and enabling children to be candid with their questions and concerns.
Educational
The puppets effectively deliver their educational messages because there is magic in the medium. They capture children’s attention and then offer information about their lives. Watching a puppet show allows the audience to relate to and reflect on what they see and hear. The puppet characters present social and behavioral concepts that the audience can take away with them.
